Ads: Facts vs Opinions

Advertisements are a form of persuasive texts that we see around us everyday. However, some ads use facts to try to persuade someone, while others use opinions. Some ads use a bit of both.

Here are some examples - Which ones use facts and which use opinions to persuade you? What is each ad trying to say?

Persuasive Writing Research Task 14/2/11

For today's computer lab lesson, everyone should choose one of the following topics to research for a future persuasive text related to our Inquiry Topic:

  • Planning for Wellbeing
  • Nutritious Meals
  • Managing Stress
  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Getting along well with others
  • Positive Self-Image
  • Being Successful in Life

Remember, a persuasive text presents a point of view with supportive evidence, and is often used to influence opinion or sell something

You will need to search for evidence that supports your topic/argument and save it to a Microsoft Word document. At the end of the lesson, print out your Word document, as you will need to use the research later in the week during our writing lessons.

QOTD: Who is your favourite Musician/band?

My all-time favourite band is Guns N' Roses. When I was a teenager, their album was one of the first CDs I ever bought, and to me, they were the coolest guys on the planet. Their guitarist, Slash, was the reason that I took up the guitar, and my goal was to learn all of his guitar solos. My favourite song by Guns N' Roses is "Night train".

Write a short paragraph about your favourite musician/band in the comments section. What is it about that artist that makes them your favourite? And what is your favourite song by them?
